Surgically, a necklift or neck redraping is perfect for the person who has loose neck skin but is satisfied with the look of their upper face and forehead. The target of a necklift is the lower 1/3 of the face and will improve the appearance of loose sagging skin of the neck and jaw line. It will not improve the upper 2/3 of the face which is better treated with a full facelift.
Done on outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia, an incision will be made starting at the earlobe to behind the ear. The underlying neck muscles are then tightened for a more youthful and natural appearance and any excess skin removed.
There is very little pain associated with this procedure and the stitches are removed 7 days post surgery. There will be some bruising and swelling which dissipates over 10 – 14 days. The final results are seen after about 6 – 8 weeks post surgery. You are back at work within two weeks with a smoother and more contoured neck.
